Clandestine methamphetamine labs or “meth labs” have become an environmental exposure issues as our nation’s drug problem has continued to grow. Once the authorities discover a meth lab, it will be cleared of chemical materials. The property is often put up for sale or it will return to the owner. Authorities may require clearance reports to permit re-habitation of the property.

High EH&S can provide guidance on decontamination of a property that has been potentially contaminated. We can assist in determining whether building or room interiors are safe to inhabit after the meth lab chemicals and equipment have been removed. Chemicals used during the meth manufacturing process will produce gases that can leave residues on the surfaces of walls and furniture in the room. Powder-based ingredients may be distributed throughout the property. High EH&S will evaluate post cleanup actions and conduct surface sampling to determine if the site of the contamination has been adequately remediated and whether it will be safe to reoccupy the property.
